2015
On Jan. 19, 2015, two volunteer teachers, Maran Lu Ra and Tangbau Hkawn Nan Tsin, who were both 20 years old and worked with the Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC), were raped and killed in their hut. At the time of the incident, soldiers from the Myanmar Army's Infantry Battalion (IB) 503 were present in the small village, and 28 soldiers were suspected of involvement in the double murder. The Women's League of Burma's report, 'If They Had Hope, They Would Speak,' documented 118 cases of sexual violence against ethnic women by the Burmese military within four years (2010-2014). This performance was dedicated to the two victims of reported/unreported and documented/undocumented sexual abuses in armed conflict areas in Myanmar. One month later, at a commemoration event for two teachers, I performed this piece in Mandalay in 2015. developed a follow-up group performance workshop discussing the issue with the audience participants.
