This work examines the ongoing transformation taking place in Myanmar and the significant changes in its landscape. The country has opened its doors to foreign investors, leading to the development of condominiums, business centers, lavish shopping malls, and global business chains. Since 2010, foreign direct investment in Myanmar has increased fifteen-fold compared to 1990, and tourism has also surged six times. Additionally, the Asian Development Bank provided $512 million to the reformed government of General Thein Sein for road, energy, and education projects.

However, the benefits of this economic development have largely bypassed the poor, especially women. The street vendors in Yangon continue to face the same struggles. They endure poverty as a daily ritual, as if they have been assigned to serve as the last line of defense in a city undergoing rapid change, revealing the corruption that lies within.
